The lands of DR Congo still bear the marks of the past 20 years of unrest, instability and tension—despite that, this part of the world is a true jewel as far as coffee-growing is concerned. Thanks to its high altitudes, volcanic soil and unique climate conditions, it boasts unlimited potential when it comes to cultivating premium-quality arabica varieties. Virunga Coffee is determined to introduce coffee connoisseurs all over the world to the joys of Congolese coffee: the company has been fighting tirelessly to establish high environmental standards in local coffee farms, ensuring safety and sustainability for the people of DR Congo, and providing fans of specialty coffees with truly unforgettable experiences. 

Once ripe, the coffee cherries are picked and delivered to the local station for sorting. The specimens of the highest quality are selected, then depulped, fermented for around 24 hours, and left to dry out in the sun for a period of about 10 days. After resting in a cool, dry place for another month or so, the beans are finally ready to be exported, continuing their journey towards your cup.

While this coffee will turn out amazing regardless of how you brew it, it’s suited particularly well for espresso machines, Aeropress coffee makers and moka pots.
