I have had a Gaggia Color manual espresso machine for a number of years so was familiar with using a similar one.
I usually have a 300ml mug of cappuccino after lunch every day. So the first thing I found was that I had to remove the drip tray to fit my mug in! Being lazy I have been in the habit of putting a half cup of milk and frothing it first, then I switch to coffee setting and use a second cup and running the machine to cool it down/warm the head before putting ground coffee in!
This doesn’t work for the Viva so I have had to change my technique!
